Today I got an update to my Samsung Galaxy Note 2. It was the promised update that T-mobile rolled out on June 3rd. The update includes several "security enhancements" and a new function called "Smart Switch". Although there is no move yet to Android 4.2.2, at least T-mo is watching out for the biggest phone (literally) in their lineup.
Samsung knows that as a user of Android you likely have a large number of apps because there are just so many free apps on Android.. So to make moving to a new Galaxy S or Note phone, they've created Smart Switch. Smart Switch will backup all your settings and apps, then through a web-based service move all of it to the new phone.
It's important to note that if you're switching from iOS to Samsung's Galaxy line that you will not be able to use any iOS features like iCloud or iTunes afterwards.
Although Google provides a list of all the apps that you have ever downloaded and will allow you re-install any number of them on a new device, Samsung is trying to hedge all bets and meet users where they are.
