Blogger for Android: Much Better

I've been using blogger to write my blogs for going on six years now.  And only now am I looking at the App for Android as a viable tool. This most recent update to Blogger for Android is leagues beyond just the last version.

In the previous version of Blogger for Android, any updates made on one device or the web would not sync with another device. Although Google had announced at Google I/O that syncing across devices would be possible, we had yet to see it in Blogger.  The coolness does not stop with the background features.

It was quite possible to swap between blogs in the prior version, but now it's even easier to swap between accounts.  This may not be a problem for many people who use blogger although I am aware that it is normal to have multiple blogs.  The UI is really snappy, even on my modded Samsung Galaxy S.  In the main interface that displays the list of posts, there are now three lists. You can use either the full list of everything, or only the published post, or only the drafts.  I quite appreciate how clean the post presentation is now.

As noted by Google via the What's New tab on the Google Play store, the latest updates include

  • Tablet Support
  • Improved compose screen (WYSIWYG editor)
  • Performance boots
  • Minor bug fixes
Although the software is still less than perfect for adding rich content.  If you're on the go and want to write a simple, yet functional blog post, that may in-fact contain an image, the new Blogger for Android will do it.  Honestly, I've actually used it to write part of this post.
